OUTSIDE

SouthSide Works is home to Tunnel Park’s large grassy lawns and the entrance to the park trails of the The Great Allegheny Passage and Three Rivers Heritage Trail. Set along the Monongahela River, the property is adjacent to the South Shore Riverfront Park amphitheater and a lively Marina.

TUNNEL PARK IS TRANSFORMING.

The greenspaces are being shaped into a community dog park, complete with an all seasons food and beverage kiosk, a beautiful and functional children’s playground and artspace, a social space for outdoor movies and activities, and a community garden.

SOUTHSHORE RIVERFRONT PARK

South Shore Riverfront Park opened in 2012, serving as an important connection for the Great Allegheny Passage and Three Rivers Heritage Trail. The former steel mill barge dock has been converted to a public park and 1,000 seat amphitheater in an innovative project that straddles a railroad tunnel and overcomes a 40’ drop in elevation to provide access to the Monongahela River. Switchback terraces connect upper and lower plazas to create an exciting outdoor public space for recreation, relaxation and special events.

SOUTH SIDE MARINA

The South Side Marina opened in 2015 on the Monongahela River in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as the next development phase of the South Shore Riverfront Park project designed as “a place where everyone can enjoy the city’s greatest, the rivers.”

THREE RIVERS HERITAGE TRAIL

The Three Rivers Heritage Trail is an urban rail trail paralleling the riverbanks in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Allegheny County for about 33 miles, often on both sides of the rivers, and offering unique views of the city of Pittsburgh.

GREAT ALLEGHENY PASSAGE

The Great Allegheny Passage was completed in 2013 after 35 years of trail building between Pittsburgh and Cumberland, Maryland. In Cumberland, the GAP connects to the 184.5 mile C&O Canal Towpath, and together, they provide a non-motorized, nearly level path between Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. The section of the GAP from Cumberland to Ohiopyle is a segment of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, one of eight nationally designated scenic trails.
